“An ‘Artistic worker’ and a specialist in the television arena in Puerto Rico.” This is how Osvaldo Rios described himself on his return to his home town’s TeleviCentro drama called ‘La Carretera’ in which he was offered a new part by Jorge Luis Ramos and Vicente Castro and which will be aired on September 18 at 7:00pm.
“I was one artistic worker and supported my own country’s field of work. Sometimes I did it without any fee, not thinking about making any profit but to provide support. That’s because it’s a duty for people who have left this country and have managed to make a living through this kind of work. Also, it is necessary to make way for the next generation and give them a chance.” This is how Osvaldo expressed himself in a recent interview with El Vocero.
Making use of a break from playing Maximiliano in his home town, Osvaldo is waiting to act in ‘Decisiones’ (The Decision) and ‘La Viuda de Blanco’ (Blanco’s Widow), both television dramas from Telemundo in which he plays completely different characters.
‘La Carretera’ is Lourdes Robles’ comeback work and is a story about Maximiliano (played by Osvaldo) who decides that before he gets married he will meet a woman (Robles) he met through the internet as a way of saying farewell to his life as a single man. There are a lot of scenes in which people meet each other and there are complications caused by misunderstandings due to both characters not telling the whole truth.
Local Television says “Could be more creative”
“My character works for a construction company and is a computer freak and this is a story about a hunter who, in the end, becomes the hunted,” Osvaldo, who played in the same creator’s ‘Asesinato en Primer Grado,’ commented after careful consideration.
Osvaldo, who is also a singer, spoke about the work that XCL-TV created and mentioned what he thought about the situation surrounding television in Puerto Rico.
“I think that Puerto Rico TV is nothing more than a reflection of society but sometimes I think it could be more creative. Creativity stopped after the 80’s and 90’s.
“However, I believe that Puerto Rico’s TV will continue to grow. I like the experiences I gain through working in on-going TV dramas, mini series and one-off dramas. People who don’t have any art or artists don’t have any identity or culture.” He did not hesitate to say this despite his busy schedule and never refusing to guest star in dramas.
He also spoke about playing in the TV drama ‘La Viuda de Blanco.’ “I thought that it would be quite boring to play the same part with the same story that I did in 1996. It was a very big risky decision. We had only played good people so I decided to take on this part to challenge myself and this required a lot of emotion.” This is what he said about the program in which both Itati Cantoral and Fancisco Gattorno appear.
