Miami ? As much with fictional characters as with people who play fictional characters, one’s past actions determine one’s future path.
In this way, the singer Lourdes Robles returns to performing after a long break from appearing in the television comedy, ‘Barrio 4 Calles (District 4),’ singing the theme song, ‘Vivo’ (Live) with actor Osvaldo Rios, also making a comeback, for Vicente Castro’s new film for television, ‘La Carretera.’ This is Osvaldo’s third CD that he has released.
In this new one-off intense thriller shot in various villages in the middle of Puerto Rico, the past stories of the main characters Maximiliano (Rios) and Darlene (Robles) haven’t been destroyed but actually come back to surprise them in a dramatic way.
In the same way that the famous composer and Cuban producer Jorge Luis Piloto and his Puerto Rican colleague, Yoel Henriquez, put life into the song Vivo, they also gave life to the film for television.
“‘Vivo’ is a little dark ballad, at the same time as it is the theme song for the film, it is also the theme song for radio,” explained Robles one afternoon recently at the North Miami Audio/Visual Studio.
This artist and her mother live in Ocala Village in North-East Florida. The song is going to be played on radio and it will be included on her new CD, she added enthusiastically.
“While shooting the film I was asked why Osvaldo and I were not singing together. ‘Why don’t you two sing the theme song for the film together?’” Robles said, explaining how this duet came into being.
“At first I thought that I was going to write the song but I didn’t have much time so I contacted Piloto not only my producer but a friend.”
Piloto had a piece of work that he thought might be suitable and after Robles explained the story to him he arranged the song with Henriquez.
“But he also said this at the same time: that he didn’t want to write a song that only explained the story, he wanted to include some of the dark aspect of human nature in the song,” the singer said trying to recall what she was told. “He wanted to include things that happen in life and stay inside you, affecting one’s decisions.
What Rios did was put passion back into his performance which he hadn’t been able to do for a while.
“The work of an actor requires a lot of time sometimes shooting 14, 15, 16 hours. I love music and if I can’t put 300% into it then I would rather not do it at all,” he analyzed. “But I want to do it if it’s in the show that I am acting in.”
So Rios was able to sing with Danny River and Yolandita Monge.
“I’ve got another chance to sing a duet with the very talented singer, Lourdes Robles,” said the handsome Rios. Jorge Luis Piloto is one of the best composers in Central America. His way of teaching singing is superb. It makes me feel comfortable and he knows what people want to be and what they should be.”
It was a rewarding discovery for Pilot to hear Rios singing in a studio because he had suffered from the pain of having his identity stolen by an imposter who had pretended to be like him in Puerto Rico.
“The surprise for me has been Osvaldo,” the veteran in this field with 23 years experience elucidated. “I am always suspicious when actors say they can sing. But Osvaldo really is a musician; he sings and plays the guitar! I was surprised.”
