Making a TV comeback

Rios feels happy about resuming his career as an actor and talks about the upcoming project exclusively to us.

Rios arrived in imposing black 2003 Corvette Z06 limited-edition. However, the reason Osvaldo Rios is not just an ordinary boy is not because of his magnificent car, nor the Puerto Rican and Latin American art collections, nor his prestige as a political figure. What does he drink when thirsty? ? Indian shake, “Light”.

The picture of Giuliano and Osvaldo Gabriel in the comfortable and tidy “town house”, where he has lived by himself for 2 years shows his pride as a father. Six guitars speak for his love for music. But, native North American characteristic lucky charm, “nightmare catcher” is attention-getting. As its name suggests, this works to capture the nightmare- that’s what the international handsome TV drama star has experienced in the past several years.

Under the gossip-lovers’ groundless rumor and media coverage based on it, Rios played the leading role in the drama named lawsuits in which his private life was challenged by hardships and his career (as an actor) became sluggish. So, “nightmare catcher” is not an unnecessary thing and it may help.

On Tuesday, Telemundo is planning to announce that it will produce the “remake version” of “Blanco’s Widow”, in which Osvaldo Rios successfully starred 10 years ago, by co-producing with RTI Television in Colombia.

Co-starring with Francisco Gattorno and Itati Cantoral, Rios will make a comeback on a small screen as a brother of the character he acted in the first version. “Blanco’s Widow” means not only a TV drama comeback but also beginning of new career for Rios.

“In addition, the contract considers a few projects by “VIP’s decision” and the possibility of the main character in “Tierra de Pasiones” in which Francisco (Gattorno) was taken out of the cast. And the shooting of “Blanco’s Widow” should begin soon”, Rios revealed in the exclusive interview with El Nuevo Dia before leaving for Puerto Rico to spend a Father’s day with his family. He added, “The shooting of my role (in Blanco’s Widow) won’t begin for a while, though”

Rios’s comeback as an actor includes the project about mysterious Zorro, which Telemundo, NBC, and Sony Pictures want to implement in 2007, in Colombia.

“It’s not important what character I will perform in the project because I’ve loved Zorro since I was a kid. I want to participate in the project as Zorro, Zorro’s friend, the general of Zorro’s village, whoever”, Rios laughed. He talked with Gattorno about theaterizing “Kiss of the Spider Woman” by Manuel Puig in which Rios would act as gay Morina.

Rios is obviously excited about his comeback because it has been impossible for him to accept important projects for 2 years and his career has been in the critical condition.

“That was serious damage as I lost a multi-year contract with Televisa on starring in a TV drama, ‘Mariana de la noche’ when the incident occurred”, he said. “After that, Hugo Leon Ferrer, RTI producer in Colombia, called to make an offer for the leading character of ‘Pasion de Gavilanes’ but I couldn’t do it. He called me again about starring in ‘La Tormenta’ which was written for me, but I was not allowed to leave Puerto Rico, even though I had lived in Miami for 4 years at that time.”

But that’s not all.
“I had to decline the offer for ‘El Cuerpo del Deseo’, too”, he reveals. “That was really hard. Although I got 4 quite important offers from a producer and a script writer, I could not accept them because I was not allowed to get out of Puerto Rico. I could not do my work to earn my bread and butter.”

The star of the successful TV drama such as “Kassandra”, “Gata salvaje”, and “Angel rebelde” takes what he has experienced in stride and places a great importance on his new opportunity.

“I felt a little frustrated at first because I lost already 4 great offers which I could not receive every day”, he analyzes. “So, when I got an offer for “Blanco’s Widow”, I thought this would be the start for my new career. It is a great start. I really love that project and at that time the old version thrust me into prominence like that. And I know that the new version will be no exception. I’m looking forward to it. I just really want to start it. I want to continue writing a story of my life”

Rios can be positive when he writes the hard chapter of the story.
“I met Osvaldo who came to the Mercado Square in Rio Pierdas, a boy with a suitcase leaving Puerto Rico to conquer the new horizon in 1991.” I could see his contemplation on writing.
“I feel quite calm now. I can forgive myself and I can also forgive everyone that hurt me.”
