 “Kassandra”- a TV drama in which Puerto Rican Osvaldo Rios and Venezuelan Coraima Torres starred-the love story of gypsy is so popular that it has traveled all over the world and has been prevailing among people, with the audience in 148 countries including Poland, Slovenia, Czech Republic, and Slovakia. Brazil will be the 149th country to see the famous “best selling ever” TV drama next month.
Rios has become a Puerto Rican actor who has performed in the most international works for these 10 years and was just invited to Balkan States by Eurocom to do a brilliant promotion tour last year. In addition, he is planning to visit Japan in the last week of October thanks to the success of “La viuda de Blanco (Blanco’s Widow)”.
“Kassandra” was first broadcast in Japan in 1996 and it has been rerun many times since then. So, Coral Picture Corporation is going to shoot three interviews on Rios’s life as a father, son, actor, and Puerto Rican from tomorrow, Thursday in Miami. Those interviews will go out on Super Channel and its network channels in Japan ahead of his visit.
Across borders
“We’re leaving for Japan in the last week of October. This visit is important on the point that I would be the first Puerto Rican actor who will appear on the TV screen in the country on the other side of the globe. Before my arrival, yes, just like when I visited Bulgaria, I want them to know Osvaldo Rios as a father, son, artist, and Puerto Rican. So, I’ve decided to take various films about Puerto Rican music and culture to let them understand us”, the actor said.
He is also a main character in the TV drama “Tres destinos (Three Destinies)” and is going to shoot the special film about his career as an actor and artist and his life, which will be on air as a program titled “Show Business” for GEMS TV broadcast in 40 countries. The film will be shot in Puerto Rico where he grew up and they will interview his family, too.
“What is important is that Puerto Ricans have gone beyond national borders and shown our talent not only on the New World but also on other continents for quite some time. I can name several musicians such as Ricky Martin, Chayanne, Jose Feliciano, and Tito Puente, just as a few examples though. I am very happy that Puerto Rico can have the dignified representation with international influence accepted with respect just like we did”, Rios told.
After he went to such far countries as Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, etc for its promotion, the leading role in “Kassandra” never gets surprised about the magical power over gypsy love in the story and its manner of approach toward the subject any more.
“That is, I mean, the power of universal love which controls human beings can cross the cultures and nationalities. Three years ago I never imagined that this drama would be accepted in China and Japan, the countries where people expressed their love in different ways and that gypsy would be the universal theme which would be accepted by all cultures. All human beings and all cultures probably have something passionate, intense, and gypsy-like in an ounce of their souls. I think the reason why “Blanco’s Widow” was televised in as many as 100 countries is that the audience projected the performed images to the reality and felt sympathy with our performance”, Rios concluded.
