The play for children was produced by Marina Berti and Edna Rivera Toledo. All the performers in the play appealed for solidarity and peace in Vieques. PuertoRican flags and placards with slogans were brought in on the stage to move audiencefs heart. The children came to understand toward the end of the show what the play really meant. Someone said in PRIMERA HORA, gThe children in Vieques have suffered from the U.S. Navy.h
Brenda Liz Lopez, Miss Puerto Rico 1999, debuted as the beauty. She sang and performed splendidly in spite of the poor acoustics in the theater on Sunday. Blenda was so charming no one could ignore her. She was so brilliant that Magali Febles, the stage artist, just couldnft take his eyes off of her performance.
Rios also showed his versatile talent. He played the beast before turning into "Principe Justo," which just fascinated the children. His acting was nuanced because of his unbalanced character and walking with a limp. The director was Jose Luis Ramos Escobar. Gerardo Ortiz, Sara Jarque snd Miguel Diffoot had remarkable performances. Other actors were Maury, Julio Ramos, Marcos Garay, Orlando Rodriguez, Marta Aviles, Javier Torres and Milagro Alonso. The play was performed fourteen times and finished receiving childrenfs and their parentsf compliments. No future performance has been decided. Producer Marina Berti ,however, mentioned in PRIMERA HORA the play would reopen at Centro de Bellas Artes or some other major theater in San Juan. The schedule is now being decided.

* 2) Vieques is a small island in PuertoRico. The island has been used by U.S. military as a firing range since 1940. Two thirds of the island is occupied by U.S. bases. Because of the constant firing and bombing, there is concern about a high incidence of cancer and harm to animals. The accident that caused an islanderfs death during the bombing propelled the protesting activities.
