Devil of love? - Osvaldo Rios

Osvaldo Rios has come back to Colombia to star in the new version of “Rauzan (Caballelo de Rauzan).” His appearing in this country has provided the topics such as his life, work, and love again. He answered our questions.

To be a TV star always comes with a price. Those who achieved that status always have not only a lot of fans but also the media harassment, moderate jokes, and scandals. The same holds for Osvaldo Rios, a Puerto Rican who returned to Colombia to play the main role in “Rauzan.” There are many things rumored about him in our country but there are more bad things than good ones. For example, he is an expert at conquering the women by his brilliance without any measures.

Or he kisses them off when he doesn’t want them any more. Or the romance with Shakira was only in the business interest of him and he was dumped because he spoke ill of her parents. Or his ex-wife filed an abuse suit against him. Or he came to Columbia with his new girlfriend. Control TV met Rios and talked about these rumors with him. He frankly talked on some of them while he made no comment on others. We started the interview at noon. Osvaldo stopped shooting to concentrate on our conversation. He warned us before the interview-

“I don’t want to talk about Shakira. That’s all in the past.”

Q. Didn’t you feel anxiety about working in Colombia again due to everything told about you here?

-No. There was always around 10% truth in most of the bad comment on me by the gossip journalists. I am a worker in the art and I just do my way through working. Other than that I have no time to be nervous.


Q. The mass media which splashes only your love affairs all says that you are Casanova. What do you think of that?

-It’s a fabrication and I think it’s a strategy to sell gossip magazines and newspapers. I don’t mean to criticize them. I understand that the newspaper reporters have to make a living and support their families. I would be happy if I were able to do so by speaking badly of others. People who understand me and know what I’m doing also acknowledge that I have been a frank and direct person and that I have been improving thanks to study and work. I want to be really accepted by those people instead of the insincere.


Q. A Spanish singer Isabel Pantoja affirmed that your romance was part of your trick. Is this a fabrication, too?

-No comment on it. I don’t want to talk about the nonsense. That‘s not my interview style nor what I have to answer.


Q. But, was that really your trick?

-Isabel Pantoja and I played the leading characters in a movie and a TV series and we were good workfellows. That’s what I have to say.


Q. Is the relationship with the ex-girlfriend in Bogota, Eddie Castaneda hogwash, too?

-No comment. In fact, I don’t know anything about her.


Q. Your Puerto Rican ex-wife’s lawsuit against you is talked about in Colombia. Is it still going on?

-That is a lie! Come on! If that were true, how could I have the parent authority and custody of my son? I see him twice a month. My ex has been happily married to a pilot for 3 years. Besides that, I visit her house every time I go to New York.


Q. You have a new partner now. Who is she?

-Her name is Geraldine Fernandez. She is an American-raised Puerto Rican. Also a movie actress. Her movie “Escape from Cuba” is now showing at the international film festival for several days. She has a 7-year-old daughter, my son is her age, and we’ve been one family for a year.


Q. Do you consider getting married to her?

-I’ve ever got married twice before just like her. We don’t have any plans for the wedding ceremony for now. Both of us are satisfied with our relationship.


Q. My last question is about the incident on your work. When you finished shooting “Blanco’s Widow (La Viuda de Blanco)”, I hear that you took away the equipments installed in the apartment RTI rented… even the bed…

- (Grinning) All that nonsense makes me laugh. By the blessing of God, I’m economically successful, I have my own company, and I have enough money to buy a lot of beds. If what is said had really happened, I couldn’t keep such good relationships to RTI people.

“Rauzan” will indicate even the truth of Colombia which the world press doesn’t want to introduce to the world.

As the phrase goes, “Just throw a stone, and you will get some fruit.” Probably those who fabricate a story on me, especially the media people do so for that purpose.

If the media speaks unfavorably of Osvaldo Rios so much, why does RTI pick him up again?

We chose Osvaldo because we could do a great work at “Blanco’s Widow”. When casting, I noticed that Osvaldo had a wide range of roles to perform various characters. So, I contacted him and he compiled without any objection. We have a good relationship with the channel.

Osvaldo has treaded the path to Colombia since he made a drama with Coraima Torres. He has the perfect looks for Rauzan. That’s the reason why he got the character.
